How We Assist Homeowners
We all want to live in a house that is comfortable, inexpensive to heat and cool, and friendly to the environment.  Unfortunately, how to achieve this within a budget is a major challenge.  With vendors each championing their own product, the homeowner is left to decide what to do and how much to spend.  Using “rules of thumb” and internet research point you in the right direction, but still leave significant opportunity for wasteful decisions.  Getting the best value requires cross disciplinary knowledge to ensure a comprehensive and consistent design.  Sustainable Energy Analytics provides you with the understanding and data to make informed decisions and budget allocations.  We assist you by offering:
  • Education and Planning.  It’s more complicated than you think!  There are many ways to become more energy efficient and sustainable and there is only one lowest cost route for you.  We have a proven process and the experience to help you pick the path that is right for you, your house and your budget, all documented in a customized Sustainable Energy Roadmap™.  We answer your questions so that you not only have the facts but the understanding of how your house and heating system work together to deliver a comfortable, safe, healthy, clean living environment.

  • Budget Trade –off Analysis.  We don’t rely just on benchmarks and broad studies to determine what your savings will be.  We create a custom energy model of your home and use it to estimate exactly what savings will accrue as the result of each change you consider before you commit any money.  This allows us to play with various alternatives and determine the best balance between reducing your energy needs and providing efficient supply.

  • Vendor Recommendations.  In recent years our understanding of how to properly construct, insulate, heat, and cool our homes has improved dramatically.  Today, most accepted “rules of thumb” are not sufficient to deliver required results.  Some contractors and installers have done a better job than others in keeping pace with new practices and techniques.  More than ever selecting a quality installer is a critical success factor.  We are constantly meeting with and evaluating contractors’ understanding of current practices to have a ready list of qualified, high-quality companies to recommend.

  • Contractor Selection.  Improving the energy efficiency and sustainability of your home usually requires more than one installer.  To complicate the selection process, each installer has their own installation method and set of definitions.  Comparing quotes from two installers is very difficult and requires experience to sort out key assumptions, risks, and omissions.  We know what the required work is and have to knowledge to spot omissions saving the homeowner time and money.

  • Implementation management.  Significantly upgrading the energy efficiency of your home is a complex project and not an easy effort.  It requires multiple trades working together as a team.  Seemly small “short-cuts” or favors to another installer can have a very large impact on the main goal; energy efficiency.  For busy professionals or those who are uncomfortable with managing these kinds of projects we will coordinate the whole process from design through commissioning.

  • Field verification and education.  During the contracting and building phase we can be available to explain any requirement, train contractors on new conservation concepts, and verify that the work performed meets the stated specifications.  It is critical that not only is the work completed, but that the installation process is followed as well.
